Accounting Agency
The Accounting Agency (german: Buchhaltungsagentur des Bundes) is a public service company. It is the central service provider for federal accounting and guarantees competent, transparent and reliable services. The Accounting Agency is owned by the Republic of Austria, but is an outsourced federal company that acts independently. The Accounting Agency Act (BHAG-G BGBl. I Nr. 37/2004) forms the basis of our operation.
The daily business includes services like offsetting and audit, by following the budgetary provisions. In addition to these statutory services, the Accounting Agency can also provide services for its customers that are stipulated by contract.
Our customers are all federal ministries, the supreme institution of the state (the Presidential Chancellery, the Parliamentary Administration, the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Administrative Court, the Austrian Ombudsman Board, the Court of Audit) as well as the legal entities administered by the federal government.
The central accounting enables a significant increase in efficiency. There are around 4.6 million bookings, with a volume of around 235.5 billion euros, that are transacted annually by about 530 employees via the federal government bank.
The provision of services and the customer fees are based on a framework agreement between the Republic of Austria, represented by the Federal Minister of Finance, and the Accounting Agency.
